My Favorite Formulas for the Best Concealers for Mature Skin

Your skin tells a beautiful story, and your concealer should celebrate that rather than hide it. The heavy, matte makeup trends of the past decade do a disservice to your natural radiance by masking the under-eyes beneath thick, rigid layers. What we really want is movement, light, and hydration.

I've spent my career curating complexion products that elevate and honor the skin you're in. When it comes to finding the best concealer for mature skin, the secret isn't more coverage—it's better ingredients. Here are my favorite formulas and the exact brush techniques I use to create a smooth, glowing finish.

The Best Concealers for Mature Skin

When building a routine for mature skin, I look for serum-like formulas rich in skincare benefits that stretch and move naturally with the face.

Dior Forever Skin Correct

Out of everything in my kit, I find that this formula has the longest wear time and stays completely creaseless throughout the day. It has a gorgeous, lightweight texture that feels like nothing on the skin, but it still manages to deliver a flawless layer of full coverage. I can rely on it to camouflage everything from dark under-eye shadows and redness to stubborn blemishes and hyperpigmentation without any heavy caking or transferring.

The formula itself is ideal for mature skin because it moves with your expressions instead of sinking into your fine lines, and it holds up even on hot, humid days.

Dior achieved this by using a formula that is 96% natural-origin ingredients, which is exactly the kind of intentional skincare integration I look for. They infused it with iris extract for deep hydration, wild pansy to soothe the skin and keep it comfortable all day, and yarrow extract, which works wonders for smoothing out texture and brightening up the entire eye area. Plus, since it's fully dermatologically tested and non-comedogenic, I can safely use it on any client without worrying about breakouts or sensitive eyes flaring up.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

This concealer is a staple in the beauty industry, and it holds a permanent spot in my professional kit for good reason. It gives you up to 16 hours of dependable wear with a stunning, light-reflecting finish that instantly breathes life into the skin. What makes it a good pick for mature skin is its Multi-Active Botanical Blend. This blend actively works behind the scenes to firm the skin's texture, soothe redness, and reinforce your natural moisture barrier for a full 24 hours of hydration.

NARS also incorporated specialized light-diffusing powders into this formula, which do an incredible job of optically blurring away the appearance of dark circles, sun spots, and blemishes without needing a heavy layer of pigment. And, because the line features a range of 30 distinct shades, I can always find an exact, seamless match for every single skin tone I work on.

ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer

If you prefer a clean beauty approach, this serum-like formula is an absolute dream to work with because it melts directly into the skin rather than sitting on top of it. What makes this product a standout for mature skin is its intentional ingredient selection, which includes Vitamin C, Mastic, and Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract.

When I apply this on clients, the Vitamin C goes to work immediately to brighten up the overall complexion while actively fading the look of stubborn dark spots and hyperpigmentation over time. At the same time, the mastic resin softly blurs fine lines and surface texture without adding any heavy bulk. It also targets stubborn redness and discoloration while protecting the delicate eye area from daily environmental stressors like pollution and UV rays. It keeps your skin looking rested, balanced, and radiant throughout the day.

Bobbi Brown Under Eye Corrector

Sometimes a skin-toned concealer isn't enough on its own, especially when you are trying to cover deep, stubborn shadows. This creamy pot helps neutralize dark circles using color theory.

If you’re dealing with dark under-eye circles, using a peach-toned concealer is the most effective way to neutralize the blue and purple tones before you even touch a traditional concealer (you can read my full breakdown on this in Byrdie). If your shadows lean more cool, dark blue, or purple, a peach shade will reset the skin tone perfectly. If the darkness leans more grey or brown, use a pink-based Bisque shade to cancel out the discoloration.

L'Oréal Paris True Match Radiant Serum Concealer

You don't need to spend a fortune to get a beautiful, pro-level finish. If you're looking for a budget-friendly concealer, you can find this serum-hybrid at your local drugstore.

L'Oréal formulated this with a 1.5% hyaluronic acid complex and caffeine—it actively plumps the skin while working to de-puff the under-eye area. It's also lightweight and creamy, which prevents it from dry-cracking or settling into expression lines as the day goes on.

How to Apply Concealer for Mature Skin

Having a beautiful, hydrating formula is only half the battle. To keep your makeup looking fresh and seamless all day, the application technique is everything.

  1. Never Skip Skincare Routine You can't just apply makeup over dry texture and expect a glass-like finish. Press a high-quality, hydrating eye cream into your orbital bone and give it a full minute to absorb before picking up your makeup.
  2. Warm the Product First Applying a doe-foot wand directly to your face deposits far too much heavy liquid. Instead, wipe a small amount of concealer onto the back of your hand first. Pro Tip: If your skin is feeling exceptionally dry, mix a tiny drop of a liquid hyaluronic acid serum into the concealer on the back of your hand to create a customized, ultra-hydrating tint.
  3. Press, Blend, and Lift Grab a concealer brush (sponges soak up too much product) and pick up a tiny amount of concealer from the back of your hand, then gently tap it onto the darkest areas under the eye. Tapping presses the pigment into place, whereas swiping just smears it around and creates streaks.
  4. Forget the Setting Powder Thick layers of powder will instantly absorb your natural moisture and emphasize texture. Skip the heavy baking entirely. If you notice a tiny bit of settling throughout the day, just take your bare concealer brush and gently tap over the area to smooth the pigment back into place.
