The Evolution of Elaina Badro: From Working Artist to Beauty CEO
Elaina Badro’s resume doesn't read like a typical corporate executive's. By the time she was 15, she was already the keyholder at a Los Angeles salon. At 19, she worked at cosmetics counters and managed the high-energy shows during Fashion Week to put herself through college.
That hands-on hustle paid off. Badro eventually found herself on the original beauty team for Gucci Cosmetics, and by the age of 24, her artistry had been featured in VOGUE Italia.
But spending years on high-fashion sets and celebrity red carpets made her realize there was a major disconnect in how people approached their routines.
"Women would splurge on makeup but never invest in a set of quality makeup brushes," Badro says. "You can buy the most expensive products, but if you don't have the fundamental tools for a flawless application, it's a waste of money."
Building the Brand from the Ground Up
To solve this, she launched her namesake brand in 2012. Without investor backing or a huge marketing budget, she built the company organically on Instagram, relying on genuine relationships and word-of-mouth from her celebrity clientele.
Because she was a working artist, Badro approached her brush design with deep technical precision. Instead of the standard aluminum used by most brands, she insisted on using copper ferrules. Copper is highly resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, but more importantly, it grips the bristles much tighter. This prevents the shedding and fallout that ruins a makeup application when using cheaper tools.
Formulating with Intention
When it came time to expand the brand beyond brushes into color cosmetics, Badro maintained that same strict standard. Her cosmetics, which are manufactured in Italy, are entirely talc-free.
After researching how natural talc deposits can easily become contaminated with trace amounts of asbestos during extraction, she refused to use the ingredient. Knowing the scientific links between asbestos and serious respiratory diseases, she chose to bypass the cheaper manufacturing route to protect her consumers' health.
From the Studio to the Wynn
Today, her tools are widely recognized as an industry standard. Marie Claire named her collection the "Best Makeup Brush Set for Foundation." Her line was also selected to retail at the prestigious Wynn and Encore in Las Vegas, making Elaina Badro® one of the only beauty brands featured at the Forbes Five Star hotel alongside Tom Ford.
Despite running a growing luxury brand, Badro stays firmly connected to her roots. She still teaches makeup seminars in Southern California and works to bring awareness to victims of domestic violence through her non-profit, Embrace Your Face. She is also an active member of the Women’s Entrepreneurial Center.
For Badro, the drive behind the business remains incredibly straightforward: "When you look good, you feel good. And feeling good about yourself is of the utmost importance."
